[In busy streets someone who wants to go unnoticed has two choices, to blend in with the crowd or to hide. The girl was too exhausted to keep up with the bustling of the busy city and so she hid. She didn't even have to try that hard, people rarely looked up and so she was sat balanced on a roof. The roofs here were all pointy unlike the flat ones at home, it made things harder. She was leaning against a chimney eating a plumb she had snatched from a shop earlier.]

The girl came through the window, not wanting her movements tracked. She stood awkwardly for a moment, "I did be delivering them all."

"Perfect. And you're just in time for food," she said, finishing up setting the table. "Sit down," she said, dishing up a plate of food for her that included one whole fish in honey sauce.

The girl grinned, she was hungry after all that running about. The command made her blink in surprise but the woman had made her food so, she sank to the floor near the window and crossed her legs.

"At the table, silly," she said, setting the plate down. "Come eat," she said, filling her own plate before taking a seat.

The little girl frowned but stood up and walked over before scrambling up into the chair. She glanced around but there wasn't any bread, she hadn't really seen any in this city weirdly enough, or at least not the kind you could eat food with.

She tore a strip off the fish with her fingers and popped it in her mouth, honey flooded her senses and her face lit up, she looked up at the woman with wide happy eyes.

Becca chuckled watching her. "You'll want to use a fork, it'll make eating the vegetables and rice easier," she said, holding up the fork she'd picked up to eat with.

The girl looked at it with suspicion, "It do be looking stupid." She picked up pinches of rice and pushed them into her mouth.

"But I get bigger bites," she said, scooping up a forkful of food and putting it in her mouth. "And I don't get my fingers all messy."

The girl just ignored her and continued eating the way she had been, happily devouring the honied fish. It wasn't the same as how they made it at home but it was sweet and she liked it.

Becca let it go, teaching her table manners could wait until later.

Good, she wouldn't have listened, she ate the food quickly. "You do be a good cook."

"Well thank you." she said brightly. "I could always teach you."

The girl shrugged, "I do already be knowing how."

"Yeah? Maybe I'll make you take care of that around here, too. Man, you'll be spending so much time here you might as well sleep here. Unless you've already got somewhere nice to sleep?"

The girl's expression grew instantly suspicious and she glanced towards the window, planning an escape route.

"I do be fine."

[pencilpremonition]

"Suit yourself," she said with a shrug. "But I'll be here if you need things, I'm sure we can come to an agreement for trading."

[knifewithnoname]

"An agreement." She frowned and nodded, "Yes we can be doing that."

[pencilpremonition]

"Well, we can think more on it another day. I'm leaving the washing up in your hands, and then I think I'm headed for bed."

[knifewithnoname]

The little girl hated washing up, but the woman had fed her and she knew the rules. She stood and gathered the plates from the table and went over to the sink.

"Where do the water be?"

[pencilpremonition]

"You'll like this," Becca said brightly, and went over to twist the knob for the cold water. "And it just drains out again through that hole. If you want the sink to be full, there's a plug here," she said, indicating that before turning the water off again. "For hot water, it's that knob instead, though it takes a couple minutes for it to get hot."

The girl stared suspiciously at the sink as the water came out of it. "How do it be doing it?"

To tell the truth, or a believable lie? She didn't even understand the way it worked herself. "Well, you know how a river pushes along. There's a river, and there's a pipe that goes into it. When you turn the knob, it opens up a flap, so the river pushes into the pipe, too. That's how the water comes through. And to get hot water...one of the pipes runs through a fire, and it's somebody's job to keep the fire going. So that when the water gets to us, it's been heated up in that fire. But it has a long way to go, so the water that's already in the pipe gets cold, and we have to wait for the hot water to push it out so the hot water can come through. Make sense?"

Well that sounded a very complicated system, the girl wrinkled her nose and turned her body to look under the sink. "Where do the fire be?"

"I don't know. It's different in each building. Maybe the basement?"

[knifewithnoname]

"And someone do be having to make sure it do no be going out?" That sounded like a boring job.
