[In busy streets someone who wants to go unnoticed has two choices, to blend in with the crowd or to hide. The girl was too exhausted to keep up with the bustling of the busy city and so she hid. She didn't even have to try that hard, people rarely looked up and so she was sat balanced on a roof. The roofs here were all pointy unlike the flat ones at home, it made things harder. She was leaning against a chimney eating a plumb she had snatched from a shop earlier.]

[Apparently bratty little children were abundant in this city tonight.

It's rather hard to hide or blend into a crowd when you're grey skinned with brightly colored horns, but Handmaid did her best to make do. Even so, it got very overwhelming very quick dealing with the claustrophobic and packed streets littered with staring eyes, and the young troll was in need of a quiet respite from the clamor. Levitating herself off of the ground, she touches down on the roof just a few yards behind where a certain young girl was hiding, eyebrows raising with surprise that anyone was up here at all.

To startle the child or not to startle the child, that is the question...]

[Levitating is cheating, the girl continues to eat her plumb, glancing from side to side, listening for any noise.]

Becca had much the same idea, and she was tucked into a little nook on one of the rooftops, in a little corner where the building turned. She had a notebook in her lap, and she was sketching quietly when she heard the girl climb up. Her eyes flicked over, then back down to her page. "Aren't you afraid of falling?"

[The girl's eyes flickered angrily to the voice, grabbing her knife in case this new threat turned out to be a real danger. She scoffed at the words] Only clumsy idiots do be falling. [She scrambled up a little bit so she could see the woman, though she didn't go near, and made sure she could see her knife.] And I do no be afraid of nothing.

Becca looked over again, taking note of the knife. "Oh I see. And you're right. But plenty of people think they're less clumsy than they really are."

Well they do be stupid too, they should be being more aware of what their body do be doing.

[She sat down and took a bite of her plumb, still watching suspiciously.]

"Some people are too dumb to function," she said with a shrug, utterly oblivious to the irony.

[A grin at that, she continues eating and watching the woman, wondering what she is writing and what she is doing up here on the roof. She was annoyed that someone was here, this was her roof, and she knew it's hiding places and dangers but if someone else was using it she would have to move.]

"So what sort of things do you like? Besides big knives and not being stupid?"

[She was a little stumped by that question, things she liked... She liked when she completed missions and Tawin praised her, she liked being with her sister, she liked her training, but none of those were things she could say to a stranger.

Becca turned a page in her notebook and started sketching, looking up at the girl more often now. Soon, she tore a page out and carefully moved over the roof to offer it out to her. "Here," she said gently.

She'd drawn the girl dancing with a flame faerie, with flickering fire for hair and a dress.

The girl took the page with a suspicious frown, she had never seen anything like it before. At first she thought it was her sister but she realised it was her, how the woman saw her.

She stared at the other creature, like no monster she had seen before, in her lessons or in this city. "What do that be?"

"It's a fire faerie. If you make friends with one, you'll always be warm," she said brightly.

"That do be stupid, why would it be making friends with me." She frowned, "It do be having better things to be using it's fire for."

[pencilpremonition]

"Oh, but they like making friends with everyone."

[knifewithnoname]

"They do be sounding stupid." She didn't hand the paper back though, she had never seen anyone make things look so real by drawing before.

"It's called being nice," she teased.

She frowned, it was still stupid. "Why did you be drawing this?"

Becca recognised the girl's suspicion. It reminded her, in all sorts of painful ways, of herself. Knowing that much, she knew the 'right' answer to give, or at least what she hoped was right.

"Because I like drawing all sorts of different people, and since I drew you, it's only fair I give it to you now I'm done with it."

The girl looked at her suspiciously before nodding once. Then she reached into the pocket of her dress and pulled out a smushed cake, she crept along the roof to half the distance between her and the woman and put it down before retreating.

"I did be getting two."

[pencilpremonition]

"That's very kind of you, thank you," she said cheerily, taking the cake and tucking it into her bag. "You know...if you're ever hungry, I have work that an extra pair of hands would be worth feeding to me. So just get in touch if you want honest work, okay?"

[knifewithnoname]

"What kind of work do you be meaning?" The girl asked still suspicious, but stealing only got her so far and it would be stupid not to look at less dangerous methods of gaining food.

[pencilpremonition]

"Cleaning, mostly. Sometimes running errands. Nothing I wouldn't do myself, but it's nice to not have to do everything, isn't it?"

[knifewithnoname]

It was lazy, but the girl kept her sneer mostly to herself. Cleaning was boring but not hard, errands were... well they could be exciting...

"And you would be giving me food?"

[pencilpremonition]

"I would," she promised. "Do you like fish? I have two little fishes I need to cook tonight. I could either smoke one of them to have for later, or I could feed a little helper..."
